Shane Rayner, Managing Director
Delivery amazing electrical projects might run in our veins, but empowering school leavers and mature trainees is something we are incredibly passionate about.
Since 2007 our MCBS Academy has given school leavers and mature trainees a head start into the electrical engineering career they want. Through our ambitious 50X2035 plan we aim to put fifty highly skilled electrical engineers into the industry by 2035. To achieve this, we’re expanding the scale of our academy to provide industry leading training to apprentices across Essex and Suffolk.

“Transitioning into a new industry in my 30s as a Parachute Regiment veteran was tough, but MCBS gave me my first chance as a trainee Electrician nearly two years ago. Their unwavering support and strong values aligned with my military principles, making the transition rewarding and seamless.”
Damien Myles, Trainee Electrician
What our Current and Past Apprentices have to say…
Jake Cattermole,
Electrical Apprentice
“I am currently in the first year of my electrical apprenticeship. I enjoy the variety of work involved such as installing containment supports and first fixings. Furthermore, I enjoy being involved in second fixing. It helps to elevate my learning and level of understanding because all stages of the work are visible.
I wanted to do my apprenticeship with MCBS as a result of multiple recommendations. I understood that the work MCBS do is more specialist and I wanted to be part of that. Not many Electrical Contractors offer the opportunity to complete an electrical apprenticeship this way. I was eager to get on board. Above all, I always feel supported and encouraged with everyone I work with.”
Stuart Beur,
Electrical Projects Manager
“I have been with MCBS for over 10 years. During this time, I have expanded my knowledge and met a variety of people within the industry. They have all helped to shape me into the engineer I am today.
I began my career as an electrical apprentice. Along the way I have gained a significant amount of knowledge, experience and skills. As a result, it has enabled me to progress and develop into my role today managing multiple projects. The support and guidance you receive from the team is excellent.
I’d recommend those who are interested in an electrical apprenticeship to apply to MCBS because they are one of the leading Electrical Contractors in Essex.”
James Meakings,
Electrician
“I enjoy working for MCBS. We have a lot of fun on site and the atmosphere is always friendly and inclusive. We work hard as a team and get involved in an interesting variety of projects.
Recently, I have been working on distribution boards by myself and have been taught in a way that is easy to follow and understand. Being shown the process of installation step by step by my site supervisor has really helped me with my self-confidence and ability.
I am now in the 4th year of my apprenticeship and feel I am always supported. Whether it is direction or advice from the MCBS team on-site, tutors at college or feedback/support from our dedicated HR and management team- there is always someone to go to for help.”
